What to Expect During Initial Contact
When you first contact us, you’ll likely be greeted by Connie, the practice principal, or one of our friendly administrative assistants. We’ll take the time to understand your needs and guide you through the next steps. Here’s what you can expect:
- 1. Understanding Your Needs: You will likely be asked about the reason you’re seeking therapy to help determine the best therapist for you, based on the psychologist’s expertise and approach.
- 2. Scheduling: We’ll ask about your availability to ensure we find a therapist and appointment time that fits your schedule.
- 3. Referrals & Mental Health Care Plans: While a referral from a GP or a mental health care plan isn’t necessary, we will enquire if you have one to help us with our suggestions as to which therapist would be a good fit.
- 4. Preferences: You’ll have the option to tell us about any preferences you have regarding therapists, therapy approach, or whether you prefer in-person or online (video/phone) appointments.
It’s completely okay if you don’t have all the answers at the start. We’re here to guide you through the process.
If you’d like to secure an appointment, we’ll collect a few more details:
- Your email address so we can send you all the information you will need for your first appointment.
- Your mobile number for appointment reminders and in case any changes to appointments come up.
We’ll also explain how Medicare rebates work and how they might apply to your sessions, if relevant.
If you have any questions, whether or not you’re ready to book an appointment, feel free to reach out. If you prefer, you don’t need to provide your name when making a general enquiry.
Email Contact
If you reach out by email, the process will be just as flexible. We’ll ask about the reason you’re seeking therapy (e.g., work-related stress, sleep issues), your availability, your preferences for a therapist, and whether you have a mental health care plan or referral.
The communication will proceed at your own pace—whether that’s over a few days, a week, or longer. We understand that not everyone feels comfortable making an initial phone call, and we want you to feel at ease in choosing the best communication method for you.
