Talia Gonda

Clinical Psychologist

Talia’s qualifications are a Bachelor of Psychology with Honours and a Masters Degree in Clinical Psychology. She has more than 16 years experience providing counselling and therapy and over 11 years experience as a Clinical Psychologist.

Talia has worked in private practice, hospitals, and university settings with a wide range of issues, from helping people to cope with life challenges, to providing treatment for psychological disorders.

Talia is skilled and experienced in working with anxiety and anxiety disorders. She draws on best-practice approaches to helping her clients overcome the distress and limitations imposed by excessive anxiety. This involves providing practical strategies to assist her clients. Talia has expertise working with social anxiety, OCD, panic disorder, excessive worry and other anxiety conditions. In addition to treating anxiety disorders, she helps people to reduce anxiety-related behaviours and tendencies such as procrastination, perfectionism, avoidance of valuable activities and other anxiety-related coping patterns. 
 
Talia also works with mood disorders (including depression and bipolar disorder). 
 
Alongside anxiety and mood disorders, Talia has experience working with alcohol-related issues and has co-facilitated a controlled drinking group.
 
In addition to clinical conditions, Talia enjoys helping her clients with sleep difficulties, improving their self-esteem and their relationships with others (including partners, family and friends).
 
Talia has worked with a range of ages, from children, through to young people through to adults. Having worked as a university psychologist she has a strong background in helping young adults navigate the challenges of early adulthood. Talia has also worked with people from a range of different cultural backgrounds. 
 
As well as providing treatment and therapy, Talia has co-authored papers on topics related to rumination and depression as well as explored possible predictors of improvement in people with complex mental health issues. In addition she has designed and co-facilitated a training workshop for crisis counsellors, provided training about mental health to peer educators and taught undergraduate coursework to psychology students at university. 
 
Talia is passionate about psychology. She is caring, compassionate and non-judgemental in working with her clients. She uses a collaborative approach to helping her clients achieve their goals.
 
Talia primarily uses a Cognitive Behaviour Therapy framework, sometimes incorporating aspects of Schema Therapy. She is trained in other therapies as well such as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, which she uses on occasion. Her therapy is tailored to each individual.

Talia is fully registered with the Psychology Board of Australia, and is a member of the Australian Psychological Society, the Australian Psychological Society College of Clinical Psychologists, the Australian Association of Cognitive and Behaviour Therapy and the Anxiety Practitioners’ Network.
