Connie Terzis – Practice Principal

Clinical Psychologist

Connie’s qualifications are a Masters degree in Clinical Psychology, and Bachelor of Arts with first class Honours in Psychology, from the University of Sydney.

Connie originally entered the field of Psychology as a career change from Merchant Banking. She has since gained 20 years experience as a psychologist. Prior to entering private practice Connie worked in a psychiatric hospital, assessing and treating adults with acute and chronic mental health and behavioural problems. She also has considerable experience conducting group therapy for anxiety disorders, drug and alcohol rehabilitation, and stress management.

Connie’s areas of interest and expertise include: relaxation training, stress management, anxiety management, anxiety disorders such as panic disorder and social anxiety, drug and alcohol issues, sleeping difficulties, relationship issues, and long term life patterns. Connie has also conducted numerous neuropsychological assessments of adults with mental health problems, and presented reports at tribunal hearings.

In addition to providing treatment and therapy, Connie has been heavily involved in supervision of clinical, forensic, sports and educational intern psychologists from various universities, and has been accredited as a supervisor by the NSW Psychologists Registration Board. She has also presented on Cognitive Behaviour Therapy for professional training courses and for support groups.

Connie works primarily within a cognitive behavioural framework, and also has expertise in solution focused brief therapy and schema therapy. She has an affinity working with people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, and her experience has enabled her to become resourceful in adapting therapies for clients from such backgrounds.

Connie has a keen interest in, and undertakes regular training in, neuropsychotherapy, or the neuroscience of therapy, which draws on contemporary neuroscientific knowledge to enhance therapy outcomes.

In addition to clinical work, Connie has conducted an Honours level thesis on response inhibition in adults with ADHD. She has also conducted a Masters level thesis on the demographic and clinical characteristics of individuals attending self help groups versus therapist-directed groups for anxiety disorders.

Connie is an insightful and dedicated therapist, who works to empower clients to better deal with their stresses and difficulties. She is committed to ongoing professional development in order to consistently provide benchmark treatments for her clients.

Connie is fully registered with the Psychology Board of Australia, and is a member of the Australian Psychological Society, the Australian Psychological Society College of Clinical Psychologists, and the International Association of Applied Neuroscience.
